Vulcain Cricket First Edition Circa 1947

This is the very first edition Vulcain Cricket, released in 1947, was unlike anything most people had ever seen. It looked like a proper timepiece: clean case, legible dial, and straightforward elegance. But inside, the engineers at Vulcain had coaxed a tiny beast of an alarm mechanism into existence. When set and triggered, instead of a polite chime like a clock on a bedside table, the legendary calibre 120 in this little watch produced a sharp, buzzing call, much like its namesake, the cricket. In a world accustomed to silent watches or gentle ticks, this sound was bold, disruptive and surprisingly charming. The Vulcain Cricket became the first proper wrist alarm watch. In 1953, U.S. President Harry S. Truman received a Vulcain Cricket as a gift. He wore it proudly, often photographed with it on his wrist. From that moment on, the Cricket earned its nickname: “The President’s Watch.” The Cricket was designed to serve its wearer reliably, and on time. Just like the leaders who wore it.

Condition report:

This watch is in overall great condition. The original dial is in great condition with minor signs of wear and has a beautiful patina. The lume on the dial is the original radium lume, and the hands had been relumed. The case had been lightly polished in the past and is still nice and sharp, wearing some minor scratches. The watch comes with a high quality leather strap still in good condition. The watch had been checked by our watchmaker and is still keeping great time, and the alarm function working normally sounding loud and crisp. Video of alarm mechanism is available upon request.
