Citizen Cosmotron W/ Colorful Shifting Dial - Aug 1973
Introduced during the dawn of the electronic age, the Cosmotron represented Citizen’s early venture beyond traditional mechanical watchmaking. Before quartz would eventually dominate the industry, the Cosmotron stood at the fascinating crossroads between classic horology and emerging electronic innovation.
Yet beyond its technological significance, what truly captivates about this example is its dial.
At first glance, it appears dark and mysterious, with a patinated dark blue dial with patterns that had formed with age. But tilt the watch toward the light, and the dial transforms entirely. Deep blues erupt into shifting spectrums of color; flashes of electric blues, purples, greens, and fiery gold emerge across its surface depending on the angle and lighting.
Paired with its distinctly seventies case design, faceted gold markers, and futuristic styling, the Cosmotron perfectly captures the optimism of an era obsessed with space-age aesthetics and technological progress.
Condition report:
This watch is in overall great condition. The original dial has developed some interesting patina showing some patterns throughout which appears to had form from inside the dial itself over time. Tilt the watch and burst of colors erupts. The watch comes with its original kanji day wheel. The case is in great condition, and the watch comes with an aftermarket JDM Bambi bracelet. The electronic cal. 7804 movement is still in good condition and is keeping good time.
