IWC Yacht Club Ref. R811 - Vintage C. 1967 Beautiful Condition & Serviced
The late 1960s marked a golden era for IWC. While many Swiss brands were chasing ever more complicated designs, IWC focused on something different: creating watches that were robust, elegant, and engineered to last a lifetime. Introduced as the brand’s answer to the growing demand for luxury sports watches, the Yacht Club quickly became one of IWC’s most successful models, blending everyday practicality with understated sophistication. The reference R811, introduced during this period, embodied everything that made the collection special.
This particular 1967 IWC Yacht Club Ref. R811 captures that spirit beautifully. Its silver sunburst dial dances with the light, shifting from warm champagne tones to a soft metallic glow depending on the angle. The dial has aged beautifully showing a stardust effect. At approximately 36mm, the stainless steel case wears with timeless proportions, large enough for modern tastes yet retaining the elegance expected from a vintage dress-sport watch.
Beneath the dial beats one of IWC’s greatest technical achievements: the legendary Pellaton automatic movement. Designed by Albert Pellaton, IWC’s technical director, the movement utilized an ingenious winding system renowned for its efficiency, durability, and longevity. Decades later, collectors continue to regard these movements as some of the finest automatic calibres produced during the era, a testament to IWC’s engineering-first philosophy.
Today, the Yacht Club remains one of the most compelling vintage IWCs on the market. It offers the refinement of a dress watch, the versatility of a daily wearer, and the mechanical pedigree that has made IWC a respected name among collectors.
Condition report:
The watch is in overall excellent condition for its age. The original dial has aged gracefully showing a stardust effect, and depending on different lighting and angles shows a silver to champagne sunburst. The lume is the original tritium, and the case had been polished in the past but still retaining the shape thickly and nicely. There are very minor scratches around. The watch comes with the original crown. The watch comes with an aftermarket leather strap. The movement was last serviced in September 2025, with the movement dismantled, cleaned, oiled, and calibrated, and is now keeping reliable time.
