The 1970s marked the golden age of Japanese watchmaking. While names like Seiko, Citizen, and Orient often dominate the conversation, brands such as Ricoh quietly produced some of the era’s most distinctive and well-built timepieces.
This Ricoh Diver 200 FT Ref. 41219AC is a wonderful example of that period. Rather than copying Swiss dive watches outright, Ricoh embraced the bold design language that defined the decade. The broad tonneau-shaped stainless steel case, oversized acrylic crystal, and striking turquoise minute track create a look that is unmistakably 1970s. Complementing the glossy black dial are applied baton hour markers, luminous hands, a practical bilingual day-date display, and the distinctive red Ricoh flower emblem proudly denoting its 21-jewel automatic movement.
Perhaps the greatest appeal of this particular example is its honestly preserved, unpolished case. Over the decades, many vintage dive watches have lost their original factory finishing through repeated polishing. This watch, however, still displays the crisp transitions between the brushed and polished surfaces, with the sharp case edges and strong geometry remaining beautifully intact.
