This is the 1972 Seiko 6139-7002, a racing chronograph born at the height of the motorsport era.
Look at the details.
The bold minute track circling the dial. The contrasting inner tachymeter scale. The single sub-register at 6 o’clock with that splash of yellow on the chronograph hand. The day-date window sitting confidently at 3.
It’s purposeful. Instrumental. Built like a dashboard for the wrist. Inside beats Seiko’s legendary 6139 automatic chronograph movement, one of the world’s first automatic chronograph calibers introduced in 1969. It was Japan’s answer to the Swiss chronograph race, and it answered loudly.
The 7002 variant carries that smooth tonneau case, slightly rounded, with pump pushers that feel mechanical and direct. The integrated steel bracelet gives it that unmistakable vintage racing vibe, like something worn in the paddock during a hot afternoon race.
Condition report:
The watch is in overall good and mostly original condition. The original dial had aged beautifully, showing some signs of wear. There are a few marks on the dial, and the red tachymeter track circling the dial has some fade. The hands are original, although the chronograph hand appeared to had been repainted black at some point in its life. The lume had been relumed on the hands. The bracelet is the factory original Seiko bracelet, with the case appearing to had been polished in the past but still retaining its shape nicely. This movement has been serviced, oiled, dismantled and is keeping good time.
